Earth's interior comprises four layers: inner core, outer core, mantle and crust. At 1,220 km, the solid iron and nickel core lies 6,400 - 5,180 km beneath the surface. Extreme temps reach 5,400°C - almost as hot as the sun - & pressures exceed 3 million times Earth's surface. The outer core, 2,880 km down, is liquid iron and nickel heated by radioactive elements. This creates Earth's magnetic field, fluctuating every 200-300K years. The mantle is the deepest layer, 30 km down & almost 3,000 km wide. Consisting of iron, magnesium & silicon, its semi-solid rock forms the asthenosphere. The uppermost part of the mantle layer connecting to the crust are known as the lithosphere. The 5-70 km crust is akin to an eggshell, made of lightweight elements like silica, aluminum and oxygen. It is joined to the  tectonic plates, which move 3-5 cm/year. Such shifts trigger earthquakes & volcanoes, constantly reshaping the surface of our planet.
