This pale green backpack featuring little mammoths is ideal for the history buff! It is medium-sized and equipped with multiple pockets, including one to fit a laptop, meaning your essentials are secure. Plus, the water-resistant material guards against bad weather. Mammoth genus Mammuthus originated in Africa 5 million years ago, expanding to nearby Eurasia before arriving in North America 1.5-1.3 million years ago. The most well-known species, M. primigenius (woolly mammoth), evolved 400,000 years ago until its extinction 4,000 years ago on Russia's Wrangel and Taymyr Peninsulas. A shared common ancestor split the mammoths and present-day elephants 6 million years ago. Scientists believe their demise was due to a shift in weather caused by retreating glaciers. Their propensity for cold climates led to their population and habitat declines as the planet warmed. Now, many creatures, including elephants, are at similar risk due to human activity and climate change.
