Golden Lion Tamarin Poly Scarf
Golden Lion Tamarin Poly Scarf
The golden lion tamarin - also known as the golden marmoset - is an endangered primate of the Callitrichidae family native to Brazil's Atlantic coastal forests. With a population of only ~3,200 in the wild and ~490 in captivity, it is the largest of its family at 26cm and 600 gr, boasting a striking, vibrant reddish-orange fur creating its impressive mane formed around the face and ears while its face is dark and hairless. Its fingertips have claws to cling easily to the sides of tree trunks and securely traverse small branches, whether moving via walking, running, leaping, or bounding. This gives it a locomotion more similar to squirrels than primates. Show your appreciation for this beautiful species with this soft and airy scarf! While doing so, help to raise awareness on the threats it faces such as illegal logging, poaching, mining, deforestation, and others. In 1969, its population was reduced to only 150 individuals. The IUCN listed it as Endangered in 1982. Fortunately, successful conservation initiatives contributed to its survival, yet much destruction of unprotected habitats continues.
